Marriage record lists John's last name as KRACHENFALS.

Death of John Krachenfels, 66, occurred yesterday afternoon at his home 19 Casey Avenue, Wilkes-Barre Township, following a lingering illness.
Mr. Krachenfels was born in the Rolling Mill Hill section of the city and was active in St. Joseph's Church, Georgetown, where he was a member for many years.
Surviving are his wife, the former Margaret Hughes; a son John Krachenfels; four brothers, Joseph, Binghamton, NY; Frederick, Dunkirk, NY; and William and Otto, the latter a member of city fire department, both of this city; three sisters, Sophia, Mrs. Fred Bowman and Mrs. Anthony Helfrich, all of Wilkes-Barre.
Body was removed to Klein Funeral Home, 243 South Washington Street, from where the funeral will be held. Interment in St. Nicholas Cemetery, Shavertown.

Death Note:    He was living at 19 Casey Street, Wilkes-Barre Township when he died at home following a prolonged illness.

Individual Note:
     Jacob Immigrated to the U.S. in 1871, and was a naturalized citizen. In 1900 his occupation was listed in the Census as a Brewery laborer. He was living at that time with his family at 165 Holland Street, which he owned.
Found a grave marker at St. Nick's cemetery with a Jacob Pahler, born 1861, died 1932. No day or month indicated. No stone nearby for an Anna Pahler.

     In 1900 her first name was listed in Census as Annie. She Immigrated to the U.S. in 1873 per 1900 Census. At that time she was the mother of eleven children, nine still living.

     Note:   Pallbearers at her funeral were: Anthony Monahan, Peter Mulhern, Joseph Henahan, Joseph Cooper, Cornelius Ruddy and George Morio.

Individual Note:
     Sarah and her parents and siblings came over from Scotland some time between when her sister Susan was born in Scotland about 1863, and her brother Patrick was born in Pennsylvania about 1865.

1870 Census for Carbon County lists Sarah,age 20, born Scotland, living in Banks Township with her parents and siblings. This was in the town of Audenreid.
The familiy's name is spelled RHODY in this 1870 Census.
On that Census, future husband Peter Mulherin is living next door, with a Patrick Gallagher family.

Sarah does not show up in the City Directories before 1875. In the 1875/1876 Directory, a Sarah Ruddy is identified as a domestic at 133 South Main Street in Wilkes-Barre.

1880 Census lists her born in Scotland, her father born in Ireland and her mother in Scotland.

Age listed as 36 in 1886. Had 6 children at time of son Peter's birth, July 1886. 5 living at that time. Birthplace, Scotland.

1900 Census says her father was born in Ireland, and her mother was born in Scotland. 1900 Census lists year of Immigration as 1864, living in the US for 36 years. She was the mother of nine children at that time, six still living. (Who were the other 3 children?)
1900 Census lists her date of birth as 1850, age 50.

Listed as Sarah Mulhern in 1910 Census.
According to 1910 Census she was living at 87 Spruce St. Age at that time listed as 60. Children Agnes, Peter and Ellen were living with her at that time.
Year of Immigration to the U.S. from Scotland listed as 1864.
Reported to 1910 Census that she was mother of 9 children, 6 still living.

1917 W-B city directory lists a Sarah L. Ruddy. (?)

Death of Mrs. Sarah Mulherin
Mrs. Sarah Mulherin, age 66, died at her home, 87 Spring Street, last night at 9:30 of complications. Mrs. Mulherin was the wife of the late Peter Mulherin, and had resided in this city for thirty-nine years, coming here from Jeddo.
(my note: Jeddo is in the Freeland/Hazelton area of Pennsylvania. This would mean she moved from Jeddo about 1878.)
She is survived by the following children: Thomas and Andrew of this city; Mamie of New York City; Agnes of Sharon and Mrs. James J. Gildea of this city. She is also survived by the following brothers and sisters, Andrew Michael and William Ruddy of this city; Francis Ruddy of Montana; Owen McBride and Miss Susan Ruddy of Brooklyn; Mrs. Joseph Youngblood of this city. She was a consistent member of St. Leo's Church of Ashley from where the funeral will take place at a time to be announced later. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery at Hanover.

The funeral of Mrs. Sarah Mulherin was held yesterday from the family home, 87 Spruce Street, at 9:30 in the morning with a large concourse of friends and relatives in attendance.
A solumn high mass of requiem was celebrated at St. Leo's Church at Ashley at 10:00 o'clock by the reverend father Leonard, assisted by the reverend Joseph McCabe. There were many floral tributes. The pallbearers were Frank Reilly, Jogn G. Gildea, James Kirk, Joseph Callahan, James amd Bernard Mulherin.

Sarah was also a member of the Alter and Rotary Society, Catholic Action Club, St. Boniface Social Club, and the LCBA.

I have copy of Sarah's will.

Birth Note:    Iva says Sarah was born 1851.

Death Note:    She was living at 87 Spruce Street when she died of a heart attack per obituary.
