     Listed in 1870 Census as Mary, living in Wilkes-Barre with children. No street address given.
Age listed as 52. Lewis, age 24, a Teamster; Franklin, age 18, a laborer; Charles, age 16; Caroline, age 12. House listed as 439.
Living next door at 440, was Joseph Mehm, a butcher age 25 and wife Matilda age 24.
Place of birth for all: Hesse, Darmstadt.
Could this be the "Maria Mehm", sponsor of grandpop Charles Mehm's christening????

1880 Census lists Mary (62) living at (30?) Hill Street with son Frank Mehm (28), and Frank's 2 kids Anna (5) and Charles (3).

Died sometime between 1880 and 1900. Did not find Mary in 1900 Census.

(These are notes concerning a Mary found in the 1870 and 1880 Censuses. Other info has the boys mother's name as Elizabeth.)

Notes for Elizabeth:

First reference shows up in 1880-1882 Directory. There is a Elizabeth Mehm, widow of Frank, in a house on Hill Street.
Same thing 1882-1884 Directory.
1884-1886 Directory lists Elizabeth Mehm, a house at 175 S. Welles. (no mention of "widow" here).
1886 Directory, no mention.
1887 Directory, Elizabeth Mehm, a widow, boards at 175 S. Welles (with Frank Mehm). Maybe she gave or sold the house to Frank in that time period?
The 1888 City Directory listed a widow of Wendall, boards at 175 S. Welles. (This is the first mention of the name Wendall).
1889 Directory, Elizabeth and Frantz, a house at 175 S. Welles. (Frantz must be son Frank?).
I don't see mention of her again til 1893 Directory, Elizabeth, widow of Wendall, a house at 175 S. Welles.
1895 Directory lists same thing.
I don't have any notes on her for 1896 on.

Charles Mehm Sr.'s death certificate lists Elizabeth Brehl as his mother. There is no mention of his father's name.
This info was provided by Helen Mehm Weis, Charles' daughter, living at 13 Huston(?) St., City.

Found a Henry BRAHL listed in 1880 Census. 40 years old at that time, makes him born about 1840. Living on So. Main Street with his wife Louise and their six children. Could he be Elizabeth's brother?

Obituary: W-B Record, Saturday May 11, 1901.
OVER FOUR SCORE YEARS.
The death of Mrs. Elizabeth Mehm occurred yesterday morning at the home of her son, Frank Mehm, 241 South Street, of general debility, aged 82 years. She was in comparatively good health until about a week ago. Deceased was born in Germany and came to this country about thirty-five years ago and has since resided in this city. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. Joseph Hendler, Frank, Lewis and Charles Mehm, all of this city, and by one brother, Christopher Brahl of this city. She was an earnest member of St. Nicholas German Catholic Church. Funeral will be on Sunday at 3:30 PM, with services in St. Nicholas Church and interment in Darling Street Cemetery. Friends please omit flowers.

According to Mt. Greenwood Cemetery, Trucksville, PA, an Elizabeth Helfert and a Margareth Mehm were removed from St. Nicholas Darling Street Cemetery and re-buried in Frank Mehm's plot iin Mt. Greenwood Cemetery on Dec. 16, 1915.
Margareth was Frank Mehm Sr's wife who died in 1878 and was originally buried in Darling Street Cemetery.
Elizabeth's headstone identifies her as Grandma, and this must be Elizabeth Brahl Mehm.
She may have remarried a man named Helfert some time after her husband Wendell died. First name possibly Albert.
