W-B Record Tuesday, Aug. 17, 1915
At an early hour Monday morning death claimed Mrs. Louise Oneida Brahl, widow of Henry Brahl at her home at 35 Hill Street, after a several weeks illness of complicaations, incident to old age. She was aged 76 and was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Philip Beech, who were among the pioneer residents of that section of Kingston Township now known as Courtdale.
Her parents were born in Germany and Mrs. Brahl had the unusual distinction of having been born on the German ship Oneida in German waters when her parents emigrated to the United States. The birth caused the captain of the ship to extend unusual courtesies to the proud parents and in accordance with his wishes the child was named Oneida, after the boat on which she was born. The family located in Wyoming Valley soon after reaching America. Mrs. Brahl grew to womanhood in the Couirtdale section, where her father was an individual coal operator, by taking coal from the surface of the big outcropping near his home and selling the product to his neighbors. Mrs. Brahl had been a resident of Wilkes-Barre upwards of 50 years and had a wide acquaintance throughout the entire valley. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church all her life, a member of the various church societies and was respected and esteemed by all who knew her. She was a loving wife and mother and a kind neighbor.
She was the last member of the Beech family and is survived by the following children: Mrs. Hab Morgan of San Francisco, Cal; John Brahl of Rochester; Mrs. Thomas Richards; Mrs. George Titz; Mrs. John Disque and William Brahl of Wilkes-Barre; also by 21 grandchildren and one great grandchild, Charles Russ of Wilkes-Barre. One daughter Mrs. Nicholas Raver of this city preceded her in death a number of years ago.
The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon, services to be conducted at the family home on Hill Street at 2:30 by Rev. L. Lindenstruth. Interment in Hollenback Cemetery.
