     Louis was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 4th Division Infantry. He participated in D-Day and received the Purple Heart. He was employed as a postal clerk in Wilkes-Barre and served as past president of the American Postal Workers 21. He was a member of Holy Family Church and its Holy Name Society, Luzerne, and the Disabled American Veterans.

     1871/1872 Wilkes-Barre City Directory lists a John Kline, Plasterer, living as a boarder at 406 Northampton Street.
1873/1874 Directory lists John Kline boarding at South Washington Street below South Street. 1875/1876 directory lists John Kline living in a house on Blackman Street, above Brown Street. This continues up through 1884. The 1884/1886 directory identifies his house number as 118 Blackman Street.

Marriage note:
St. Mary's marriage records lists sponsors as: John Hughes and Mary A. Doherty. Married by Rev. A. Mattingly.
Elizabeth's name spelled BIGGENS in this record.

(In 1899 house number was changed from 118 Blackman to 204 Blackman Street.) John's age listed as 53, and date of birth 1847. Married for 27 years, and 50 years in the US.

According to notes left by aunt Mary Mehm Pahler: John was born in Germany on the border of Germany and France. John and Elizabeth started married life on Cinderella Street where their daughter Elizabeth was born. They moved to Abel Lane, (now 204 Blackman Street). There 7 more children were born. They also took in a boarder named James Young.

Death of John Klein
Following an illness of general debility, John Klein, age 68, well known contractor of this city, died at his home, 204 Blackman Street, Saturday morning. For the past year he had not been in the best of health and several days ago his condition became serious. He is survived by his wfe and the following children: Mrs. William Rickard, Mrs. Frank Martin, Mrs. William Krachenfels, Mrs. Charles McCall, Ruth, Grace and John Klein. The funeral will be held from his home Tuesday morning at 8:30 o'clock. A high mass of requiem will be celebrated in St. Boniface German Catholic Church with interment in St. Mary's Cemetery at Hanover.

I have copy of John Kline's death certificate, which is in very poor condition, hard to read.
It states that he was married at time of death, occupation listed as Plasterer. Date of birth: 1846. Date of death: November 28, 1914. Age 68. Address at time of death: 402 Blackman. Birthplace: Germany. Name of father: Peter Klein (look to me like spelled KLEIN). Birthplace of father: Germany. Name of mother is very scribbled, Looks like something was written in, then written over with "don't know". Birthplace of mother: Germany. The informant for the death certificate information is simply signed "Mrs. Kline". Place of burial: St. Mary's, Hanover. Date of burial: Dec. 1, 1914.
