Note for:   Elizabeth Mary Biggins (Biggans),   20 MAY 1853 - 26 MAR 1926         Index

Burial:
     Date:   29 MAR 1926
Place:   St. Mary's Cemetery, W-B, PA

The following information was written by my aunt Mary Pahler:
"Elizabeth, John's wife, maiden name Biggins, was born in Berkhead-Ayrshire Scotland. She came from Scotland as a girl, with her mother and half-sister Margaret Hughes Krachenfels, settled in north Wilkes-Barre, worked at General Hospital (as a nurses aid) where she met John Kline. General Hospital was known then as City Hospital.
John and Elizabeth started married life on Cinderella Street (W-B) where their daughter Elizabeth (Lizzie) was born. They moved to Abel Lane (now Blackman St.) #204. Here 7 more children were born. They also took in a boarder named James Young."

Year of Immigration: 1870 per 1900 census; 1874 per 1910 census. Her sister Margaret lived with her and John until Margaret married John Krackenfels, or some time before.

1880 Census listed a child named Genevra living with them. This must be one of the two children who died before 1910. Age listed as 26 in June 1880 Census.

1900 Census lists Elizabeth living at 204 Blackman Street with husband John and Elizabeth's half-sister Maggie Hughes. Elizabeth's age listed as 44. Born 1856 in Scotland. Year of immigration 1870. (About age 14). 27 years married and 30 years living in the US.

1910 Census indicates she had given birth to 10 children, 8 being alive at that time. Age listed as 52, and number of years married as 37. Year of immigration listed as 1874. (about age 16).

I have copy of Elizabeth's will.
Elizabeth's death certificate lists her parents as: James Biggins, (born in Scotland), and Elizabeth Kinsey, (born in Scotland). Her age at death was 72 years, 10 months and 6 days. (This would make her date of birth May 20, 1853).
Information on her death certificate provided by Mrs. William Rickard, (her daughter Agnes).

I have not been able to find any information on Biggins in Scotland.
I've discovered that the Biggins name is listed in County Mayo, Ireland genealogy. Also in County Dublin. The name also could have been O'Biggins in Ireland.
Perhaps the Biggins/Biggans ancestors originated in Ireland, then relocated to Scotland before coming to America????

Birth Note:    Date of birth based on age listed on her death certificate.

Note for:   Agatha (Agnes) Grieshaber,   22 JAN 1857 - 18 MAY 1909         Index

Burial:
     Date:   22 MAY 1909
Place:   Oak Lawn Cemetery, W-B, PA

Individual Note:
According to "Germans To America" Vol. 27, Ships Passenger lists, Agatha came to the U.S. in 1872. She arrived on the ship "Vandalia" in New York on May 20, 1872. She travelled over with her sister Therese, (who was two years older). The ship left Germany from the port of Hamburg. Also travelling on this ship was Xaver Supple, age 53, a farmer; his wife Anna, age 52, and two sons Franz age 21 and Maths. age 18. In addition, Fr. Krachenfels, age 17, a male laborer was aboard.
I have little information on Agatha such as where did they settle when they first came over? When and where did she meet Charles? In Kansas or before?
Their marriage license states she was 22 years of age at the time. To be born January 1857, she would have been 21 at the time.
I'm missing 6 years of information on her, 1872 to 1878.
